Aventon eBike riding through nature

Aventon REC, ADV or EXP:
What’s the difference?

Aventon Current eMTB

At Aventon, we want to make choosing the right eBike as simple as possible.

Instead of creating a completely separate model for every type of rider, we divide our line-up into clear build levels: REC, ADV and EXP. The foundation stays familiar – but the build, components and ride feel are tuned to the kind of routes you ride and the adventures you plan.

This guide explains what each build level stands for, where the differences are and which setup best fits your next adventure.

REC: Get on and go

REC stands for Recreation – simple, accessible riding made easy.

Aventon Current REC

REC is for anyone who wants to get on and start riding. With smooth support, a comfortable riding position and a ride feel that feels familiar from the very first moment.

REC is ideal for:

  • relaxed everyday rides
  • shorter commutes
  • weekend rides
  • anyone new to the world of eBikes

Under the surface, REC builds use reliable, easy-to-use components – from practical drive systems to dependable shifting – with a clear focus on comfort, everyday usability and strong value.

REC means not overthinking the technical details. You just ride.

ADV: Meaningful upgrades

ADV stands for Adventure – and builds on the REC foundation.

Aventon ADV eBike

The ride feel stays accessible, while the build takes a step further towards performance and versatility. Here, upgrades do not just make a difference on paper – they show up where you feel them: off-road, on the road, on gravel paths and on light trails.

ADV is made for riders who:

  • ride more often or for longer distances
  • combine city riding, everyday use, tours and changing surfaces
  • want an eBike that responds more directly to the way they ride

On some models, the differences are more significant – for example through more powerful motor systems or larger batteries. On other ADV models, higher-quality components are used in the drivetrain and suspension. These changes can noticeably reshape the ride: the result is an eBike that feels even better tuned to the way you ride. Every movement feels more harmonious.

ADV is not about going extreme. ADV stands for meaningful upgrades that make a noticeable difference.

Aventon Trava EXP

EXP: Refined, responsive, ready for more

EXP stands for Expedition – building on the same foundation and refining it even further.

At this level, it is less about what the eBike can do – and more about how precisely, efficiently and smoothly it delivers that performance. The eBike is already powerful and versatile. EXP fine-tunes that ride experience even further.

EXP is made for riders who:

  • regularly ride longer distances
  • value direct response and ride feel
  • look for premium components with greater precision

Here, upgrades show up especially in materials, systems and fine-tuning. The difference is not just more speed or more power. It is how calm, precise and natural everything feels when you push the eBike further.

EXP does not necessarily change where you can ride. EXP changes how controlled, comfortable and confident you feel when you get there.

Where the differences really show

Understanding the build levels is one thing. It becomes even clearer when you compare specific Aventon models side by side. That is where you can see which components change – and what that means for the ride feel.

Below, we compare REC, ADV and EXP using selected models and build levels.

Aventon Trava ADV EXP comparison

Trava ADV vs. Trava EXP

One model, two build levels – with a noticeably different ride feel.

Trava ADV is built to connect everyday riding, commuting and longer tours with confidence. Its setup focuses on natural support, reliable components and noticeable comfort across changing surfaces.

Trava EXP takes things one step further. The biggest difference is the shifting system: while Trava ADV uses a classic Shimano CUES 10-speed drivetrain, Trava EXP features the stepless and automatic Enviolo AUTOMATiQ Trekking system. This creates an especially calm, intuitive ride experience – particularly on longer distances, in everyday use and across changing surfaces.

Suspension and control

  • Trava ADV: 100 mm suspension fork with coil spring
  • Trava EXP: 100 mm air suspension fork

Both models offer 100 mm of travel, giving you noticeable comfort on uneven paths. Trava ADV uses a dependable coil-spring suspension fork – robust, simple and ready for everyday riding.

Trava EXP goes a step further: the air suspension fork can be tuned more precisely and responds more sensitively. This makes the ride feel more controlled, comfortable and refined – especially on longer routes or changing surfaces.

Drivetrain and shifting

  • Trava ADV: Shimano CUES RD-U6020, 10-speed, 11–39T
  • Trava EXP: Enviolo AUTOMATiQ Trekking, stepless and automatic, 380% gear range

The biggest difference between Trava ADV and Trava EXP is the shifting system. Trava ADV uses a classic Shimano CUES 10-speed drivetrain. It is direct, reliable and versatile – ideal for riders who want to choose their gears themselves and actively control the ride feel.

Trava EXP makes riding even more comfortable: the Enviolo AUTOMATiQ Trekking system shifts steplessly and automatically. It adjusts the gear ratio on its own depending on the riding situation, without the need to shift manually. The result is an especially calm, intuitive ride experience – with less shifting effort, more comfort and a ride feel that becomes noticeably more relaxed on longer distances.

  • Trava ADV: versatile, comfortable and strong for everyday riding, touring and commuting
  • Trava EXP: more comfort-focused, especially calm and built around automatic shifting for an even more confident ride feel

Aventon Current REC ADV EXP comparison

Current REC vs. Current ADV vs. Current EXP

Three builds. One goal: more control, more riding fun and an eMTB that fits your riding style.

Motor and range

On Current, the build levels differ mainly in the motor system and in how the power is brought to the trail. Current REC already provides a strong foundation – ADV and EXP go one step further towards performance with the Ultro X motor.

  • Current REC: Aventon Ultro S+, 100 Nm torque, 250 W nominal continuous power, peak up to 750 W
  • Current ADV: Aventon Ultro X, 110 Nm torque, up to 120 Nm in Boost mode, 250 W nominal continuous power, peak up to 750 W and up to 850 W in Boost mode
  • Current EXP: Aventon Ultro X, 110 Nm torque, up to 120 Nm in Boost mode, 250 W nominal continuous power, peak up to 750 W and up to 850 W in Boost mode

Current REC already delivers powerful, controlled support for everyday riding, tours and getting started with eMTB riding. Current ADV and Current EXP use the Ultro X motor for more direct power delivery, more reserves on steep climbs and an especially confident ride feel when the terrain gets more demanding.

Frame and ride feel

This is where the differences on Current become especially noticeable. Frame material directly shapes how the eMTB feels on the trail.

  • Current REC: robust 6061 aluminium frame
  • Current ADV: robust 6061 aluminium frame
  • Current EXP: carbon main frame with aluminium rear triangle

Current REC and Current ADV use a strong aluminium frame that feels reliable, robust and controlled – ideal for riders looking for a durable setup for everyday riding, tours and getting started on trails.

Current EXP goes one step further. The carbon main frame creates a more direct, responsive ride feel and can help dampen trail vibrations. You notice this especially as speed picks up, rides get longer or the terrain becomes more demanding.

Suspension and control

The suspension shows how clearly the Current models are tuned for different expectations – from comfortable control to more reserves on demanding trails.

  • Current REC: X-Fusion E-Slide Boost RC, 140 mm travel
  • Current ADV: RockShox Psylo Gold suspension fork and Deluxe Select+ rear shock
  • Current EXP: RockShox Lyrik Select suspension fork and Super Deluxe Select+ rear shock

Current REC offers a comfortable setup with 140 mm of travel for controlled riding on changing surfaces. It feels accessible, stable and comfortable – especially for tours, everyday use and getting started with eMTB riding.

Current ADV takes a step further with RockShox suspension. The combination of Psylo Gold suspension fork and Deluxe Select+ rear shock provides more control, better damping and additional reserves when the surface becomes more demanding.

Current EXP uses the highest-end suspension setup within the Current family. The RockShox Lyrik Select suspension fork and Super Deluxe Select+ rear shock are built for even more precision, stability and control – especially at higher speeds, on longer descents or technical trails.

Drivetrain and shifting

Drivetrain and shifting also show clearly how the Current build levels differ – from reliable and uncomplicated to especially precise and modern.

  • Current REC: Shimano CUES RD-U6000 GS, 10-speed
  • Current ADV: SRAM Eagle 70 Transmission, 12-speed, mechanical
  • Current EXP: SRAM S1000 Transmission, 12-speed, wireless and electronic

Current REC uses a reliable Shimano CUES 10-speed drivetrain. It is easy to use, robust and ideal for anyone looking for an uncomplicated setup for everyday rides, tours and getting into eMTB riding.

Current ADV takes things further with the SRAM Eagle 70 Transmission. The mechanical 12-speed drivetrain offers more range, more precise shifts and a setup that is more focused on trail performance.

Current EXP adds even more precision to the ride with the wireless and electronic SRAM S1000 Transmission. Shifts feel especially direct, clean and modern – particularly when speed increases or the trail becomes more demanding.

Current REC is comfortable and accessible. Current ADV adds more trail capability and reserves. Current EXP stays even more precise, controlled and responsive when speed and demands increase.

Making the right choice

It is easy to think that the highest build level is automatically the right one. But the better question is:

How will the eBike really be ridden?

  • If you are looking for an uncomplicated, reliable eBike, REC is the right place to start.
  • If you ride more often, plan longer routes or combine different surfaces, ADV gives you the right mix of range, control and performance.
  • If you ride longer distances, want to get more out of your eBike and value an especially precise, premium ride feel, EXP is the next level.

Every build level has its own purpose. It is not about putting riders into categories. It is about finding the right eBike for your personal adventure.
